“We wanted to create a new media platform that would motivate and inspire people to write stories – short and long - and create art, and at the same time provide an avenue for financial upside and increased exposure for the app’s members,” said VUID CEO Kevin Brophy.
Spotlight, which went live on August 1, is a new creative social app and talent development platform that rewards people for posting content. The app was originally developed as a tool to motivate and inspire underserved kids to learn to write and become artists, and now additionally serves as a talent discovery and development platform where new and existing content producers are gaining increased exposure.
“The Spotlight community has been growing by about 50% week over week since launching on August 1, and on August 31 alone members awarded more than 22,500 likes to the top contestants,” said Brophy.
Spotlight is an open network – meaning all content is posted to a common feed viewed by all. The goal of Spotlight is to allow everyone the chance to showcase their creative talent to the Spotlight audience, monetize their talents, and use Spotlight as a launch platform for larger national and international exposure.
Adam Englehart said, “Spotlight was a lot of fun, a great competition, and a great way to reconnect with friends who came on to Spotlight to support me. I started off posting my pictures and got really obsessed with it.
”To encourage quality posts, Spotlight limits members to only 5 posts per day, though members can comment on and like as many posts as they wish. In addition, members can post anonymously.
